The Interesting World of Hotel Living
Do you know of someone who considers hotels their home? Although there are not so many people who have chosen a lifestyle like this, there are those who have actually found hotel living appropriate for their living needs. It is seen by some as a better version of apartment-style living.
Hotel Living
Hotel living is a living arrangement where an individual or a family occupies a hotel room as their semi-permanent living space. Instead of regular homes, their “hotel home” serves the purpose of a residential dwelling for all intents and purposes. Payment for this type of arrangement is also based on a daily rate which is lower than regular rates because of the longer term of stay. The minimum period for this option is usually 30 days.
Hotel rooms offered for long-term use does not only mean single rooms with very limited space. Because of the very nature of hotel living, most rooms are fitted with the common amenities found in homes such as kitchen and living area. Apartment-style hotels fit this bill to a T.
Who Prefers Hotel Living
Individuals who are living alone or career people whose jobs entail frequent and regular traveling are the most common adopters of hotel living. Some people who live alone find hotel living a more preferred option and why not? It is like being alone without totally being alone. The hotel room offers enough privacy while the hotel environment offers enough socialization and interaction with other people.
Career people who frequently travel from one place to another may find the regular home option impractical because of the frequent need to be away due to work obligations. Employees who rarely stay put in one place over 6 months to a year should not be putting their money in considerable real estate investments until they are ready to settle in one place for a much longer period of time. Hotel living for an employee whether alone or with family is an important option to consider.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Hotel Living
Hotel living gives occupants accessibility to amenities that are not regularly found in traditional homes. Front desk service, food service, room service, and other services can be availed of in a luxurious environment. All these services are paid for every time they are used thus hotel living tends to be more costly in the long run.
Hotel rooms are generally more comfortable because of the incorporated features such as air-conditioning, cable TV, and Internet connection. All these have to be addressed on their own by individual home owners. An apartment-style hotel room usually have ample kitchen space in anticipation of the cooking activities of occupants. Dining out everyday can be very costly and unhealthy.
Hotel living practitioners do not have a permanent address and would have to settle in using a Post Office Box to serve the purpose. It does however offer the advantage of choice for specific hotels in specific locations. The proximity of the hotel from work is one of the most recognized advantage of hotel living. Attachment to home property is not accommodated by hotel living since hotel property will remain such no matter how long the hotel room is occupied by an individual or family.
My Say
Anything that is able to answer a specific need, no matter how unusual, can achieve relevance. A hotel room may not be the usual idea of a home but it can be converted to one in situations that call for it. For a select group of people, the interesting world of hotel living is a realistic option.

Seems a nice idea to try..:) I know of a girl who is into hotel living and her reason…she is running away from his family.

Oh that can be one reason but an expensive one, don’t you think?

Like what you have mentioned, it caters to the needs of those who prefer to take a lifestyle such as that. I am not comfortable with the idea though. I still want a place I can actually call mine whether I have to take a long commute to work or not. Then again, there are people whose lifestyle are way different than mine who can thrive to that kind or arrangement.
Teresa Martinez
It would probably depend on our personal circumstances and work arrangements. The important thing is that there is this option when it is needed.

Actually, I am dreaming of having a chance to experience hotel living. For single women like me, I think it’s great 🙂 This post also reminds me of Mr. Grey who enjoys hotel living.
Teresa Martinez
Yes, I think this can a suitable alternative for single women like you as it is easier to transfer from one place to another while traveling.

Like myself. My job is affiliated with hotels around Asia and I’m just starting to get the hang of it. I get to travel and visit different hotels in Asia and I am enjoying it so much! 🙂

You must be having a really good time.

it’s a quite nice idea to be living in such a home but rather expensive. but i guess for most business travelers – i’m sure they would prefer such as it adds convenience and doesn’t take much of your home comfort. 🙂
cheers for sharing! 🙂

Most business travelers have the benefit of paid hotel stays so this is not much of a problem with them. Staying in hotels especially when paid for by the company eliminates many inconveniences in staying far away from home because of work.

It may be unusual indeed but if I’d lead a nomadic lifestyle when duty calls, I’d rather opt for a hotel living and enjoy all the convenience and comfort that it offers. That’s a sound and realistic decision that one could ever make.

I also think that hotel living can be a good option to take when required although of course, one needs to have a means to support such lifestyle.

I like your thoughts about hotel living, indeed, if it answers a specific need, it becomes relevant. i was able to experience what hotel living is like when my younger brother was assigned for a few months work here in California. Because his hotel suite had 2 rooms, a living room and a kitchen, he told us we need not book a hotel room if we decide to visit him and tour him around SF, I believe it was very convenient for him to be in hotel living rather than rent an apartment, since all cleaning and bedding were taken care of by the hotel.

It has always been my belief that if something is useful, it should be considered. If given the chance, who wouldn’t want to experience the comfort of hotel living once in a while?

I am now aware of the hotel living as I don’t know anyone who really travel that long but it’s a great option if you would travel in a place and you have to stay for a long while.
Teresa Martinez
I believe this is not a very common living arrangement but it certainly works for some people.

I love the idea of the food service, room services in hotels but when I think of the cost it gives me second thoughts. But yes, I know a lot of people who prefer to stay in the hotels and even consider it their home because of comfort and convenience.
Teresa Martinez
Comfort and convenience are really the main considerations for opting for hotel living.

I know several people who lives in hotel, american and japanese bosses in our company, they stay for months at one of the poshest hotel in our city. I guess they prefer its accessibility and convenience and besides the company is paying so they are also making the most of their housing allowance 🙂
Teresa Martinez
Probably hotel living is preferred by some because it eliminates other rental issues associated with apartments and houses.

how i wished we could live in a hotel for say, one full week. that means, i would be free of my laundry, the cleaning, the cooking….i think i have to start betting in the lottery 🙂
Teresa Martinez
If given the opportunity, I want to have my family experience this once a year, just to be free of all domestic worries but alas that is not realistic when it comes to budget.
Mhie@travelentz
We did this before when we are in the transition of a new State. Good thing it was paid by the company.
Teresa Martinez
Living in a hotel while the company is paying for it is really advantageous since we all know how expensive it is to stay in hotels, much less live in one.
