Simple Christmas Celebrations: Call of the Times
Christmas has been and will always be associated with celebrations, merry-making, and preparations. Whether we like it or not, the activities we do in relation to the Season will entail expenses, sometimes sky-rocketing for those who choose to do it in lavish style. The call of the times however is towards opting for simple Christmas celebrations mostly as a sign of sensitivity for those who have been victims of misfortunes who may find it difficult to even produce a decent meal for the occasion. We should not stop the celebrations but we can do it in a much simpler manner that will be more fitting to the times.
Simple Food Preparation
Simple does not mean boring Β or common. During the Christmas Season, it can be choosing an entirely new and flavorful recipe that does not require much work and hard-to-find ingredients. Choosing recipes that make use of complicated procedures and ingredients that are not easily sourced is courting stress right down to the main Christmas meal itself.
Simple Christmas Celebrations
We all know that the simplest way to prepare an event is to let professionals do it. However, these professionals charge for what they do which can run to whatever number depending on the type of celebration you require. A less costly option is to take charge of the preparation yourself which will have its own cost on physical work. If you are attempting to prepare on your own, do so for a group size that you can handle. You may have to get the assistance of friends and relatives for larger groups.
Simple Expectations
Some people go to great lengths to prepare for Christmas on the expectation that their efforts will be met with the same level, if not more. This is a surefire way of getting big disappointments on a very special day like Christmas. If we keep our expectations reasonable and simple, getting more will always be a welcome surprise.
My Say
Simple celebrations whatever the time or season is part of living a simple lifestyle. We are always reminded not to base our happiness on material things because they are so fleeting. A simple lifestyle encourages good health, healthy human relationships, sound finances, and better appreciation for what we already have.

I absolutely agree without that a simple lifestyle has a lot of things for its advantage like orderliness, cost-consciousness, discipline for gluttony, and many more.

The intense consumerism brought about by malls during Christmas has altered the meaning for others. I still believe that the true spirit of Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ.

All I wish is that someday I could celebrate Christmas in the Philippines where gifts is not important not like here in America π Kids are spoiled with gifts π Who can you blame them? It is the parents and am guilty of charge π

You couldn’t have said it any better, Te Teresa! The hype about the worldly things are but fleeting. The real essence which is loving and giving regardless of what we have must not be taken for granted.

In our family, what’s most important is we are together no matter what we have in our table! π

I completely agree. We always try to have simple celebrations because we know that even the lavish and grand ones, not everyone will remember and we have learned to empathize with people who have had encountered misfortunes lately.

I agree 101% on your thought. Up to now, I am at a lost on who started this bonggang Christmas celebration. even the wise men brought a single gift for each of them.

I grew up with simple things and that’s what I a trying to instill to my kids as well. Having too many things can sometimes forget the true essence of Christmas.

Said it very well, this is what I was trying to apply in my family here, Christmas and how we celebrate it in its simplest ways.
