The 8th Spring Film Festival: Chinese-Filipino Fusion
The Ateneo de Manila University Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies and the Ateneo Celadon have been holding their Annual Spring Film Festival for the past several years now. This year’s event marks the 8th Spring Film Festival and it promises to be more exciting than ever with the addition of festival destinations to its list. With free admission to the film viewing, there is simply no reason not to experience the joy, artistry, and culture of Chinese films.
We need not be in China in one of its popular theaters like Cathay Theater to watch authentic and good Chinese movies. We can do it right here in the Philippines as 8 movies are shown simultaneously in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro plus the newly added venues in Naga, Dagupan, and Baguio. This annual film extravaganza happens on January 24 – February 2, 2014 at the Shangrila Plaza Mall and other designated venues.

The Chinese-Filipino Community places much importance in the celebration of the Spring Festival. As Ateneo de Manila’s official Chinese-Filipino organization, Ateneo Celadon holds as its mission to unite and collaborate with other Chinese-Filipino organizations to foster positive awareness, awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the Chinese-Filipino culture and way of life. Movies form a big part of culture and making them available for free viewing during the celebration of an important cultural festival is just but fitting.
My Say
Learning is said to be easier when it is entertaining and fun. Watching a single Chinese movie would probably leave a more lasting impression in our minds than any other written information about China. Of course, we cannot do without books and other written materials when we seek to learn about a particular culture but movies can help us visualize what we study. The 8th Spring Film Festival is a wonderful way to discover China without leaving the Philippines.

I love that schools like these showcase movies. A good way to be inspired.

This is a nice lineup for a film festival and I’m sure people will entertain it.

Among all these movies, I have only watched Aftershock and it’s just the best drama I’ve seen in 2013. I was crying from the middle until the end.

When I was a kid, I loved seeing Chinese movies for their cinematography and the way they are filmed I found them amazing and technologically well done.
