Blog Influence

What is influence? It is defined as the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself. Ergo, if a blog has influence, it will likewise have the same effect on its readers. Blog influence does not come overnight. It is developed and cultivated before any fruit is evident.

As we try to determine the extent of influence, it is worth looking beyond the numbers and see what lies within a blog. Influence is something bloggers should seriously be considering for the potential to have one is already a privilege. Influence is all about how one blog can affect a reader’s perspective in life.

My Choice

1. Teresay  – I am Teresa and This is My Say  {teresay.com}

Byline: Education through Information

Teresay, the blog seeks to educate its readers, not in the usual classroom style of learning but rather in providing information pertaining to Advocacy, Finance, Health, Lifestyle, Hobbies and Entertainment, as well as in Education.  These are being provided in the author’s belief that readers will arrive at wiser decisions if equipped with the right information. Education is a continuing process and need not end when we close our classroom doors behind us.

2. A Letter Writer {aletterwriter.com}

Byline: Where True Stories are Told Through Letters

A Letter Writer seeks to bring back the lost art of letter writing and story-telling. The author, together with guest letter writers aim to present real stories of life in letter form. The letters seek to inform, to awaken emotions, to challenge thoughts, and to  help us remember that some time in our lives, a letter has touched our hearts.

3. FilipiKnow {filipiknow.net}

Byline: Facts, Trivia, and What Not

FilipiKnow caught my attention and hooked it from the time I knew of its existence. I am intrigued with all kinds of information particularly of the trivia type. The posts in this blog are very entertaining, easy to read, and informative.

4. The Clickbook {theclickbook.wordpress.com}

The Clickbook provides interesting insights from a peace and youth advocate. The author’s personal mission of educating the young in conflict management and his youth give him enough room to provide interesting content. His avowed passion for writing is evident.

5. RjdExplorer {rjdexplorer.com}

Byline:  iWander. iExperience. iKwento

RjdExplorer’s tagline says it all. He wanders, he experiences, and he tells stories through his blog. For an infrequent traveler like me, articles that bring me right to the place being featured are always welcome.

6. Saranghae Korea {www.saranghaekorea.com}

Byline: South Korea in the Perspective of a Filipino Expatriate

Saranghae Korea provides information about living, working, or visiting South Korea in the eyes of an overseas Filipino worker based in the country. What I particularly like about this blog is that the author has found a constructive way of dealing with his life as an OFW. Being where the action is, he is able to provide information that is relevant, timely, and factual in his experience.

7. Elymentary Kid {elymentarykid.com}

Byline: Wherevers, Whatevers, Howevers

Elymentary Kid is a blog where the author speaks of his life exactly as it is. I like reading about real people, real views, and real experiences. Essentially in my own understanding, that is what a blog should be.

8. PalRaine {www.palraine.com}

Byline: Get it write, Get it right. Get it published.

PalRaine is the blog I read when I need to update on the latest fashion trends, kids activities, giveaways, and just about anything interesting to a woman and a mother. In this blog, the author also provides tips and tutorials for online tasks. Of course, her personal and inspiring stories can be found here.

9. Ang Sarap Pinoy {www.ang-sarap-pinoy.blogspot.sg}

Ang Sarap Pinoy is a blog that features all the delicious food that can be found in the Philippines. Not much in words but pictures do tell them all. I presume this is an offshoot of the escapades of the Traveling Morion.

10. A Non Techie Mom’s Blog {nontechiemom.blogspot.sg}

A Non Techie Mom’s Blog’s title reaches out to my heart as a mother who tries to be survive the highly technological world we are in given my old-style upbringing. It is actually quite refreshing to read descriptions of products in simple terms. It is interesting to note that many posts here are about techie products.

My Say

Bloggers like me enter this world with our own expectations. Many of us seek to share our thoughts, indulge our passion for writing, earn from it, and hopefully to earn validation from it. Like in all things, we strive to do better if we know that someone appreciates what we do.

As I present my two blogs, Teresay and A Letter Writer, along with the 8 other blogs that complete my personal list as possible contenders for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs 2013, I do so with much pride and humility. Pride, because I know that each and every blog here has been created with hard work. Humility, because I recognize the fact that all individuals have different appreciation of what constitutes influence. My own nomination of my two blogs for this project was prompted by the fact that they can only qualify for this year because of the time they were started. I would like to believe that they are both worthy and that they are both influential in their own turfs. It is my hope that readers will see them in the same light.

Today, August 1 is the first anniversary of this blog. This is the day I have chosen to publish this post as a reminder for me that my blogs are just starting to find their place in the online world, a place which I hope my readers will help me find. Using whatever influence we can lay claim to as made possible by our blogs to good use is a challenge I pose to each and every blogger who reads this piece. Let us all help make the online world a little better than how we have found it through our writings. Then and only then can we be truly proud of the influence we speak of.

There is a common misconception that writers need to write about serious topics to be considered serious writers. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Anyone can be a seriously good writer tackling any topic on earth if the willingness to learn is present.

If you wish to participate in this writing project to nominate your own top ten choices while getting the chance to win $100, you can see the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs 2013 Writing Project for details.

NOTE: Please be informed that Teresay remains to be a valid entry to the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs 2013 Writing Project. This clarification is being issued to clear out the confusion created by an erroneous notation in the evening of September 8, 2013 on the worksheet of blogs “For Consideration”.
