The emotions of photography is captured by the camera in the steady hands of a photographer with a keen eye for spotting possibilities in a single moment.  He knows the science but does not ignore the art.  He develops an angle but not without a heart.

Photography

Photography traces its origins to a time when the camera was not yet existing.  It is actually believed to be a result of a combination of several technical discoveries instead of one.  The modern day camera was said to be a product of efforts to find a way of fixing and retaining images in the so-called camera obscura which is basically a box with a hole in it where light can pass through and produce an image on paper.

The first permanent photograph of nature was taken in 1825 while the first photo of a person was taken in 1838.  Pictures were originally in black and white as the first color photograph was taken in 1861.  The first commercially successful color photo came in 1907 through Autochrome.  Kodak came out in 1935 with their color film known as Kodakchrome.  At present, it is the digital camera that is serving photo needs of most people.

Photography has been used by scientists to record and study movements although most people use it at present simply to preserve memories.  This is where special moments are captured and send their message to form a story.  This is where the emotions of photography transform picture into art.

Human Emotions

The reason why photographs are especially interesting to look at is the effect it has on human emotions.  No photograph can be considered good unless it is able to reach within and elicit reactions.  The more a photograph is able to connect to human emotions, the more it is able to find its place in everyday life and situations.

Capturing emotion in a photograph requires photographers to find that one moment that will result to one extraordinary shot whether in a candid or posed session.  Sometimes it would require many shots, sometimes one, sometimes photographers wait and allow the subjects to settle in before they fire away.  The subjects need not even know that the photographer is already starting.  The best photographs depicting human emotion are usually those that capture fleeting memorable moments that happen in a second.

How to Capture the Moment

Photographers should know that it requires patience to capture the desired emotion in  a photograph.  It is rarely a one pose-one shot deal.  Doing small talk to loosen up the subject/s is a usual practice of professional photographers.  Before any scheduled photo session, it is best to know the subject a little by asking questions, researching if required, and anything else that will provide a sense of familiarity between the photographer and the subject/s.

A photo session may entail taking warm-up shots, sometimes plenty of it.  There are no exact numbers here, just the exact moment.  That moment can possibly come in between sessions or in between shots, even while taking a break.  Photographers will just have to anticipate that it will come and they should be ready for it.

My Say

The technicalities of photography may have to be learned.   However, human understanding has to be part of learning if the goal is to produce photographs that portray real human emotions specifically in a posed setting. The emotions of photography are there and photographers who have trained their senses to be attuned to humanity are the ones who capture such emotions.
