ten moves

The Ten Moves Campaign for Typhoon Pablo victims continues the efforts to achieve the goal of building 10,000 classrooms in public schools located all over the Philippines.  The specific beneficiaries this time are the places of Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley. After the devastation brought upon by typhoon Pablo in these provinces, Ten Moves made the rebuilding of the destroyed schools in these areas a priority project.

Typhoon Pablo

It would be remembered that typhoon Pablo with the international name of Bopha hit Mindanao last December 4, 2012.  It is considered to be the strongest tropical cyclone that ever hit the island. The typhoon not only destroyed property but also resulted to the death of at least 1,000 people.  Residents of Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley have been struggling to recover since then.  Most of them had to do with makeshift shelters.  Students eventually had to make do as well with makeshift classrooms. That is still the existing situation today.

Recovery

The recovery process is still ongoing.  To some, it is excruciatingly slow.  The estimated time to repair damaged infrastructure and rehabilitate the agricultural sector of the provinces hit was placed at three years.  Clearly, more help and assistance is required from the private sector to expedite the desired recovery for the residents.

Ten Moves

The cost of building one classroom is placed at P 600,000 (Philippine Peso).  This is an amount which cannot be produced by everyone. The Ten Moves Campaign seeks to make it possible by combining efforts of people who are willing to help.

Ten Moves stands for “The Entire Nation Moves”. It is part of  Bayanihang Pampaaralan and is managed by the Ayala Foundation and the Philippine Business for Social Progress. For this particular project, Ten Moves has partnered with online fundraiser iGive.ph.

Options for Helping through the Ten Moves Campaign

This fundraising campaign seeks to gather 2 million people who will be willing to donate to the movement P 10 (Philippine Peso) everyday for 10 months.  That would amount to P 300 (Philippine Peso) per month. Those who are willing to donate in larger sums to the Ten Moves Campaign can do so directly to the movement.

My Say

The private sector always has a big role in helping especially in matters that affect a big number of people such as housing, education, and employment. Because of the enormity of the existing need, one person cannot accomplish much.  Projects like the Ten Moves Campaign for Typhoon Pablo Victims allow an individual to participate in a worthwhile cause while making his or her individual contribution matter.
