Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks

With such an extremely hot weather we are experiencing this summer, going out with the family can be really uncomfortable. This is unless of course you have managed to book your family in a spectacular getaway for the whole season. For most of us who have to stay behind due to work and budgetary considerations , we need to find ways for our children to enjoy even when they spend most of their time at home while school’s out.

What My Kids are Doing this Summer

My two young children opted to participate in some learning activities outside home for summer. They have also agreed to take a daily afternoon walk together as some form of physical activity. Even then, most of their summer hours are still spent at home. My son is currently participating in an online animation course once a week while my daughter puts most of her energies on art projects. Still, so much time is left on their hands.

Watching TV remains a regular entertainment activity at home. Thus, it is important to have shows that are not only entertaining and fun but fit for their age as well. Fortunately, cable TV has given families more choices. Nickelodeon, a satellite and cable TV channel targeting children and teenagers, is offering its  Supah Summah Hapon Hangout for our kids to enjoy the rest of the school break with the coolest guys and gals of Nickelodeon for 2 hours everyday starting at 4 pm.

Nickelodeon Supah Summah Hapon Hangout

Nickelodeon offers a peek into what we can expect from them this summer through a recent press release:

Nickelodeon wants you to make the best out of summer, and its latest offering of fun and entertaining shows promises a summer like no other. The gang from Sam & Cat, The Haunted Hathaways, Every Witch Way and the brand new series Bella & the Bulldogs will keep you company and make you LOL and ROFL every afternoon up until May 29.

Go on a wacky adventure with best friends Sam and Cat. Being a teenager doesn’t come cheap so they start a babysitting business for extra money—and this is where all the fun and craziness begins. Watch the unlikely duo as they find themselves in one hilarious circumstance after another—their funny mishaps are sure to make your day.

Mix a little family fun with ghostly adventures and what do you get? The Haunted Hathaways, no less. Silly little wars between the living and the dead ensue after sisters Taylor and Frankie and their mom Michelle move in to a home occupied by three ghosts—brothers Louie and Miles, and their dad Ray. Laugh at the funny ways they solve their conflict using supernatural powers and amusing human tactics.

What could be more fascinating than teenage drama? Well, teenage drama bubbling between witches! Hangout with Emma as she deals with moving to a new town and a new school, growing up, falling in love, all while discovering her magical witch powers. Summer might be coming to a close in Miami, but for Emma and her friends, things are just heating up!

Then, discover fun, friendship, and football in the new series Bella and the Bulldogs. Learn a thing or two from perky Bella as moves about different worlds—the one where she’s the popular head cheerleader and the other where she plays for her school team, the Bulldogs, as its new star quarterback. Find out how she goes after her dream and lead her team to victory without compromising who she is and letting her friends down.

Win Prizes for Watching

In line with this summer offering, viewers get the chance to win exciting prizes by hanging out with Nickelodeon from Mondays to Fridays, between May 18 and 29. Just watch out for the image clues that will pop up on your TV screens from 4pm to 6pm to guess the word of the day. Then, log in at nick-asia.com/haponhangout to submit your answers. Daily prizes include one (1) folding bike and three (3) Nickelodeon Goody Bags. Plus, kids who join everyday are eligible to join the raffle for the grand prize—a trip for a family of four (4) to Boracay!

To complete your super fun Nickelodeon summer experience, hangout with the Nickelodeon team at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds on May 23 from 2pm to 6pm. Hosted by Mikey Bustos and Robi Joseph, enjoy the games, entertainment, and lots and lots of surprises that will surely beat the summer heat. Bring your water blasters and have a water battle with your friends at the Splash Zone, and don’t forget to watch out for slime. After all, it’s never a Nick event without the ooze-some green goodness.

My Say

My own children have been joining  Nickelodeon contests and have always had the good fortune to win prizes from the effort. This time, they are eyeing that folding bike for each of them. If they are lucky enough, we can actually end the summer in style with that Boracay family trip. So let’s all join.
