Five teams composed of one featured chef and five apprentices, battled it out during the Kitchen Masters Finale held last April 17 at SM City Sta. Rosa. It was the culmination of several days of planning and cooking after the teams were formed during the launch of the event. This activity is in line with the 2016 Flavors of the Philippines project of the  Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Brand.

Team Effort

After the introduction of each team, everyone worked towards the goal of creating their 3 dishes using the local produce of Laguna. It was very clear that winning is a team effort as each performed his/her assigned task. Most of the apprentices who are students of Malayan Colleges Laguna admitted that they do not have prior experience in handling itik, paco leaves, and kesong puti. This did not prevent them however from doing their best in the competition.

Judging Time

The three judges had the pleasant but serious task of choosing the best team from among the five. They had to taste each every dish presented to them while scoring. After careful deliberation, they decided on the winner.

Team Chef Von Wins

These are the winning entries of Team Chef Von. They were the first team to present which is usually nerve-wracking. Obviously, nerves didn’t get in the way as they successfully got the nod of the judges.

The team won PHP 10,000 worth of shopping money from SM which they can probably use during the SM Sta. Rosa 3-Day Sale on April 29-30 and May 1. Between the 6 members of the team, I’m sure each will find something to buy with their respective shares.

My Say

Team Teresay enjoyed the Kitchen Masters Finale especially since we all learned something new about Laguna, aside of course from getting to spend quality time together. We are simply taking advantage of the fact that my children are still on their summer vacation. We congratulate all the participating teams and the supporters of such a worthy event.
