Fall In Love With People Power – How Working Together Can Change The World

Sometimes it hard to think that we can make a difference in this world. You might think ‘I am just one person, what can I do?’ But you need to remember that change comes from all those single people banding together and working towards a goal. People power can change your hometown, your country, and the world!

Social Media

With the advent of social media, we have seen some first-hand examples of how people power can make a difference in the world. Bill Byerley used Facebook to track down his missing grandparents, and barely a day go past when we don’t see an appeal to help someone.

Social media is good for connecting people and encouraging the to take action. Social media also helps to combat the problem of compression fatigue. This is when you see all the awful stories on the news but feel helpless to do anything for the people that are suffering because they are so far away. Social media shrinks our world. It makes it just as easy to help someone on the other side of the planet as it would be to help your next door neighbor.

Class action suits

In the legal world, class action suits are another great example of how people power can make a difference. Class actions are when a group of people that have been affected by the same issue club together and sue a person or organization. Their cases together often make a much more powerful testimony than if presented individually.

A famous class action includes the Exxon Valdez case. When the Exxon Valdez oil tanker crashed and split oil over 1300 miles of coastline, thousands of people were affected. By teaming together, they won $500 million in compensation.

Of course, the success of a class action lawsuit also involves the skill of your attorney. If you are considering such a lawsuit make sure to get a lawyer with experience like Martin Chitwood. A class action can be complicated, so it’s best to have someone that is an expert in their field.

Charity

Another way of making a difference in the world by grouping together is through charity. When a large group makes donations, they can have a lasting impact on people’s lives.

Whether you get involved in charity by giving money or donating your time it allows you to be part of something bigger than yourself. There are lots of charities to choose from including religious and agnostic charities to choose from. Pick a charity set up to help specific people like children or the elderly or even particular illness like cancer and MS. If giving money directly doesn’t appeal, why not take part in a sponsored activity like a run or bake sale to raise some cash.

An excellent example of this is Give a Bag of Hope. Convergys Philippines employees make donations to kids that don’t have the proper equipment. This means they can attend school.

Not only does this make the kids’ day, but they help them to get a proper education, increasing their life chances and well-being for the rest of their lives.

My Say

As the saying goes, there is strength in numbers thus the sense in working together. But we need to be discerning of the causes we support and mindful of what we do to push such causes. If we continue working together for the common good, more people will stand to benefit from the effort.
