The woman-driver stereotype often presents women as bad drivers. While this is a highly debatable subject which could give rise to a lot of arguments from those who agree and those who do not, such perception persists. Such perception plus the fact that male drivers make driving errors themselves should encourage women drivers to go beyond the stereotype image. The Chicdriven Women Empowerment Expo hopes to provide the tools that will help women polish their motoring skills and more through the truly chic way.

The People Behind the Expo

The Chicdriven Women Empowerment Expo was organized by Jeanette Ipapo-Tuason, the author of Chicdriven column as regularly featured in Philippine Daily Inquirer Motoring Section, which is essentially motoring in women-speak. Cars have admittedly been one of the major tools used by modern women in trying “to achieve it all” as they perform their many roles in life. Women can be mothers, career women, married or single, passionate advocates, or decision makers and have successfully evolved to a force to reckon with even in what used to be an unlikely industry for them to be in – Motoring.  Zest Asia Inc., together with the other sponsors have come up with this expo to provide different tools, information, and skills to women motorists and those who intend to be. Even non-drivers can obtain valuable learning from this event.

Chicdriven : Empowering Women

The Chicdriven Women Empowerment Expo’s main purpose is to bring together different women’s groups and advocacies in one celebration. It is about engaging the active participation of the community instead of being just passive spectators. The expo will be offering free seminars and workshops on topics such as road safety, auto maintenance, fashion, beauty, parenting, life balance, health and wellness. There will also be a cooking demo by Chef Bruce Lim, a Makeover station, and other exciting booth demos and workshops.

Each seminar will be representing a particular advocacy and will be co-hosted by a civic or advocacy group such as the Zonta Club Alabang, Mommy Mundo, and the parents’ associations of the different schools in the south. The 3-day affair will be hosted by Ms. Issa Litton. For seminar schedules, visit the Chicdriven Facebook Page or send an email to jnt@chicdriven.com for updates and promos.

My Say

This event that will be happening at Alabang Town Center from March 28-30 is but fitting since March is after all the International Women’s Month. It might be such a feminist view to echo the event’s tagline which is : ” Men Can Have the Title Good Drivers, Women are Good at Everything” but I dare say it has such a nice ring to it and a lot of truth in it (forgive the obvious bias LOL). The greatest danger when women start considering the woman-driver stereotype is the possibility that they will limit themselves to such expectations and act accordingly. We women drivers may not be able to control the views of the public in general when it comes to our driving abilities and motoring knowledge but we can certainly control what we think of ourselves by continuous education not only in driving but the other motoring aspects as well. We can be capable behind the wheel as we are in the kitchen and nursing our children’s hurts and we can be so damn proud about it and no one will be able to say otherwise.
