To work, study, or live abroad – such is a common dream of Filipinos for the possibilities and opportunities it presents. In making this dream a reality, the requirement to prove one’s ability to speak the language used in the desired country through a language assessment test is one step to hurdle. The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is designed to assess the language ability of people wanting to study, work , or live in countries where English is the language of communication.
You can ace this test through sufficient preparation to achieve desired scores. Let the British Council show you how.
Ace IELTS with British Council
British Council is United Kingdom’s international organization for education and cultural relations. It jointly owns IELTS together with IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. IELTS conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment. It covers the four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking. It is recognised by universities and employers in many countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK and the USA. It is also recognised by professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.
British Council Learning Hub
On May 18, 2018, the British Council launched the Learning Hub. It is a new centre for learning English and preparing for English tests, particularly IELTS, where individuals can avail of reliable resources and high-quality services that can help them better prepare for their test and achieve their best possible IELTS score. The British Council Learning Hub is located at the British Council’s new office on the 7th floor of The Curve at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
The British Council Learning Hub is a creative and inclusive space for individuals to gain new knowledge and skills that help improve their performance in the IELTS test, in turn enabling them to reach their goals,” said Nick Thomas, Director for British Council in the Philippines. “It makes use of the British Council’s 75 years of experience in English language teaching and assessment to provide a world-class facility for improving one’s English proficiency.”
IELTS uses 9-band score to clearly identify proficiency level, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9). It offers a choice of two test versions to serve both academic and non-academic purposes. IELTS Academic measures English language proficiency needed for an academic, higher learning environment. The tasks and texts are accessible to all test takers, irrespective of their subject focus. IELTS General Training measures English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context. The tasks and tests reflect both workplace and social situations. IELTS General Training is suitable for immigration purposes to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Ian Cortez, the Head of Partnerships and New Business (Exams) at British Council Philippines shared what the British Council Learning Hub offers. These include the IELTS One-day Preparation Workshop, which familiarises takers with the test; IELTS Exceed Writing Workshop, which prepares takers for the writing part of the test; IELTS Pre-tests, a simulation of the actual test; IELTS Orientation, which discusses the test format, modules and question types in the test; and the IELTS Library, where registered IELTS test takers can access IELTS books, practise test materials, audio CDs, and other resources.
Individuals can also avail of numerous online resources which they can access anytime and anywhere.
